Acura 'Advanced Sedan Concept

Acura 'Advanced Sedan Concept

Acura wants you to imagine what the corporate bigwigs will be driving in 2020. They're answer comes in the form of the "Advanced Sedan Concept," straight from Acura's own LA-based design team. When the concept was initially uncovered, our first reaction was shock and amazement, followed by a touch of nausea. Once we got past the distinctively un-Acura like front clip, we started warming up to the concept behind the concept. But overall, there seems to be too many nautical cues for our tastes. The combination of high creases flanking both sides of the front fenders and the boat-tail rear end give new meaning to the term "land yacht." The high beltline may thrill buyers at the turn of this millenium, but we're unsure if it will stir emotion in 20 years time. Have we seen the future? Acura would like us to think so, but we're not entirely convinced.

Jaguar C-XF Concept

Jaguar C-XF Concept: Detroit Preview
It’s been a while since Jaguar has taken a fresh design direction. For the past two decades or more, the luxury automaker has produced sedans and coupes that have looked very much like the cars that came before them. In other words, Jaguars have been retro for far too long. Well, that’s about to change.
The C-XF concept sedan, set to take the stage in Detroit next week, is a clean-slate design for Jag. Gone are the four round headlamps that have adorned the nose of every Jaguar sedan since, well, forever. Instead, the sedan has menacing eyes and a big, big grill upfront. Behind that grill is Jag’s familiar, supercharged 4.2-liter V8 tuned to produce 420 hp and paired to a six-speed automatic.
Like the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Lincoln’s MKR concept, the C-XF is a four-door sedan with a coupe’s proportions. And to our eyes, that low roofline and high beltline look just right. Jaguar says the C-XF is just a concept, but we’ll bet a toned-down version of this car will launch within a year or two as the replacement for the current S-Type sedan. We’ve got our fingers crossed—this is one sweet-looking Jag. —Ben Stewart

New Toyota Supra

All I want to say is I'm glad Autoblog is around at this time in automotive history. I can't remember this many exciting new models in the past twenty years. As the world around us is far from perfect, automakers are distracting us with some of the most beautiful and high-powered vehicles of the modern era. Now come spy shots of a new Toyota Supra. I've Photoshopped the image originally shown on AutoSpies to better showoff the car. Obviously these were scanned in from a magazine or brochure. AutoSpies says it looks like an Aston Martin or the new Shelby GR-1. I don't know what it looks like but it sure doesn't look like a Toyota, although neither did the last Supra. Thoughts?

Nissan Skyline

Nissan Skyline
The next Nissan Skyline will be wilder than ever when it hits the streets in two years. The all-new R35 Skyline GT-R will use a Le Mans-proven V8 engine that produces around 400bhp. With a 3.5-litre variant of the unit that powered the Nissan R390 GT1, the R35 will rival Porsche's 911 and the forthcoming V8-powered Honda NSX, sprinting from 0-60mph in less than 4.5 seconds and hitting a top speed of 170mph.
The current hi-tech, four-wheel-drive Skyline is powered by a turbocharged straight six-cylinder engine delivering 280bhp. Insiders at Nissan say the new unit is necessary to allow its models to compete with European supercars as more power is needed, and that rival Japanese models, including Mitsubishi's Lancer Evo VI, already produce more than 280bhp. The R35 will borrow from the existing R34's innovative drivetrain and computerised gadgetry. That means the R35 will use a six-speed gearbox and four-wheel-steering. The brakes will be uprated, though, and the suspension tuned to give greater flexibility on demanding roads.
The price will increase, and it is expected the newcomer will cost a Porsche 911-rivalling $60,000. Nissan is not alone in adopting such a change of strategy. Honda is developing a new 400bhp V8 engine, while Mitsubishi is currently working to produce a range of powerful GDi direct-injection units including a 2.0-litre turbocharged version for its rally cars, a V8 and a V12.

Honda S2000

Honda S2000 Continues to Define Racing-Inspired Performance for 2007
Widely considered the quintessential roadster-style sports car, the S2000 is the performance icon for the Honda brand and combines uncompromising racetrack-ready performance with everyday usability.Introduced in 1999, the S2000 rewards driving enthusiasts with a potent 237 horsepower, 2.2-liter, 16-valve DOHC VTEC 4-cylinder engine and a precise, short throw 6-speed manual transmission, along with tenacious handling and a perfect 50/50 weight balance. Continuing with significant improvements made to the 2006 model, the 2007 Honda S2000 includes an electronic Drive-by-Wire (DBW) Throttle System, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Maintenance Minder system, standard headrest speakers, an outside temperature gauge and an engine start button."The Honda S2000 is a true performance vehicle that provides customers with an exciting experience behind the wheel," said John Mendel, senior vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "Since the S2000 is a car designed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, it can easily satisfy daily driving needs without sacrificing track-worthy performance."The S2000's renowned high-revving, 2.2-liter, 16-valve DOHC VTEC 4-cylinder engine remains the pinnacle of naturally aspirated performance technology, delivering 237 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and 162 lb-ft of torque at 6,800 rpm. Perfectly complimenting the engine's output characteristics is a compact, longitudinally-mounted, close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission that features a direct linkage for precise shifting and quick throws. The S2000 comes equipped with a Drive-by-Wire throttle control system eliminating the need for a mechanical connection between the throttle pedal and the engine. This enables continuous electronic monitoring and adjustment of throttle pedal sensitivity to create an ideal match between throttle response and driving conditions. The system also manages the S2000's cruise control ******** for greater precision.Honda's VSA system makes the S2000 more stable and forgiving during street driving or in inclement weather conditions. Working in concert with the Drive-by-Wire system, VSA continuously monitors yaw rate, steering input, throttle input, and braking pressure to determine if the car is following the driver's intended path, and can independently coordinate each of the disk brakes through the 4-channel anti-lock brake system, along with the throttle, to enhance vehicle stability. While this serves to effectively enhance driver control during acceleration, braking, and cornering, the system can be disabled with the touch of a button when conditions warrant it. To help provide optimum stopping power, the braking system also features Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. The S2000's rear-wheel-drive chassis and powertrain layout results in a 50/50 front/rear weight distribution for perfect balance when cornering, while its hybrid monocoque body and "high X-bone frame" results in exceptional structural rigidity. Combined with a front and rear double wishbone suspension, precise electric power steering, and a torque-sensing limited slip differential, the end result is a complete, no compromise, performance package for the enthusiast driver.Standard features for the S2000 include a power retractable convertible top, 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, leather trimmed seats and High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with daytime running lights. An aluminum hardtop and XM Satellite Radio are available as dealer installed options. For 2007, the S2000 is available in six colors, including, Laguna Blue Pearl, Silverstone Metallic, New Formula Red, Rio Yellow Pearl, Berlina Black and Grand Prix White.

Honda Type R

The latest high performance Civic is a more refined ´superhatch´ than the outgoing Type R, but this doesn´t mean that it´s lost any of it´s driving excitement. Improved comfort levels, integrated styling and handling that has been tuned to enhance responsiveness and predictability look set to make this Type R the most exciting version to date.
The new Type R is still powered by the naturally aspirated, high revving 2.0-litre DOHC i-VTEC engine, but the unit has undergone significant reworkings to improve the responsiveness - using a new balancer shaft and drive by wire throttle control. VTEC variable valve timing and VTC variable inlet camshaft technology continue to underpin the structure of the engine.
Max power now sits at 201PS reached at 8,000rpm and the car is generally more responsive, while new improved aerodynamics make sure that the car cleanly cuts through the air.
Acceleration figures are expected to be the same as the 6.6 second. 0-62mph is the time of the outgoing Type R and this should be matched by its successor - with a top speed reaching 146mph. The Civic 5 door chassis forms the basis for the 3-door models and provides a perfect platform for the Type R.
Looks wise, the already strong appearance of the Civic has been enhanced to build an aggressive and assertive look. Front and rear spoilers, triangular foglights and 18" seven-spoke alloys all add to its dominating stance.
The interior is accentuated with the effective Dual Zone dash which is seen in other Civic models, but in the Type R features red illuminated dials set off by gun-metal effect switch panels on either side of the central display. A black, leather-covered steering wheel with red stitching and central ‘H’ logo take centre stage, while the gear shift knob with aluminium-finish has a black boot with red stitching.
To make this car even more exclusive, each Type R will also feature a plaque engraved with the car’s unique serial number is placed just ahead of the gear lever.
Pricing is yet to be announced. To read about the Civic Type R in more detail click here.

Audi A8

July 13, 2002 - Audi has released the first official photos of the new A8, which will have it's public debut at the Paris Motor Show in September. With the new A8, Audi seeks "to redefine the notion of sports appeal in the luxury segment, with compelling handling, pioneering technology and exclusive design and equipment." As the brand's flagship model, it uncompromisingly demonstrates the identity of the next generation of Audi models. There were four priority areas in the development of the new Audi A8: design, lightweight construction, dynamism and electronics. These four areas were linked by a single idea: the idea of ease. In other words, ease in the sense of design harmony, ease of acceleration, the ease with which it can be handled - the driver of an A8 should not have the impression of handling a large saloon car - and, finally, ease of operation. Its design gives visual expression to the unique character of the new A8. Expansive, strikingly arched surfaces are framed by precisely plotted lines. The bodyside theme continues the clean, controlled surfaces seen on the A6, but with more muscular proportions. A deep bevel to the lower door surfaces, together with a sharply defined rocker section adds interest to the bodyside, and seeks to give the car a lighter and more dynamic appearance. This theme is continued around the vehicle, with similar forms on the front and rear bumpers. The silhouette of flat front and short body overhangs hint at the cars dynamic potential. Two V8 engines, a 4.2 litre version with an output of 246 kW (335 bhp) and a 3.7 litre version developing 206 kW (280 bhp), will be available at the market launch in autumn 2002. One new feature in the A8 is the 6-speed automatic transmission with tiptronic ********, which constantly assures an optimum transition between the various speed stages. As an option, it is also possible to change gear via shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel; the ergonomic advantages of this concept have already been demonstrated on Audi's R8 Le Mans race car.The A8's aluminium body is built using the Audi Space Frame (ASF). Quattro permanent four-wheel drive remains unequalled in the luxury segment. It translates engine performance into superbly effective propulsion and lateral support. The air suspension for the new A8's aluminium running gear provides an optimum characteristic in every driving situation: By means of the continuously variable damper settings, the adaptive air suspension reduces body movements, while optimising roadholding and ride comfort. The driver can choose between three predefined settings, for a suspension characteristic ranging from overtly sporty to ultra-comfortable.In the luxurious interior, the driver will find an innovative approach to interacting with the vehicle's technology and its communication systems, in the guise of the Multi Media Interface (MMI). Ingenious ergonomics and an intrinsically logical and therefore self-evident operating concept make this car uniquely easy to operate, allowing the driver to concentrate on the traffic. When it's predecessor was launched in 1994, the A8 was the first production saloon to have an aluminium body. The low weight of the ASF Audi Space Frame brought a significant gain in operating dynamics, while reversing the upward spiral of body weight. At the same time, Audi set a new benchmark for dynamic handling in the luxury car class thanks to its quattro drive.Such characteristics and such a success story set a very high standard for its successor, which sets out with the clear objective of building on its predecessor's strengths and doing things even better in the areas in which the previous model excelled.

Zero concept bares a striking resemblence to the Audi TT, Nissan 350Z, and Infiniti G35 coupe. A project that has come out of the International School of Design in France, more specifically transportation designer Franck Levivier and digital designers Remi Marchand and Pierre-Olivier Wagner.Based on exterior design alone, you would expect that such a concept would involve a V6 (or bigger) engine with a huge displacement and outrageous horsepower numbers. Instead, the designers envision the R-Zero being "powered by an electric motor yet offer a supercar level of performance." To be able to generate the 800 volts of output and rocket around the test track, the R-Zero is said to deploy around 1,200 kilos (about 2,645 pounds) of "high-tech lithium-ion batteries" and a quad of engines weighing 85 kilograms (187 pounds) in total. Add in the chassis, the interior, body panelling, and all that and you have yourself a rather porky sportscar, no?

Dodge Magnum

Magnum SRT-8 Get a closer look at Dodge Magnum
THE NEW MUSCLE
It's been more than 30 years since Dodge ruled the streets with HEMI® power and rear-wheel-drive performance. Dodge has unleashed that power in an all-new proportion with the introduction of its 2003 Dodge Magnum SRT-8 concept vehicle.
"Dodge Magnum is the new shape of American muscle," said Dieter Zetsche, President and CEO of the Chrysler Group. "With its innovative packaging, performance and utility, there's nothing else like it. While Chrysler Pacifica is the premium sports tourer, Dodge Magnum is the performance sports tourer that packs a powerful punch and the ********ality of an all-wheel drive sport utility. Armed with a HEMI inside and rear-wheel-drive, Dodge Magnum delivers power in a package that offers unmatched flexibility and versatility."
While the Dodge Magnum SRT-8 is a concept vehicle, it provides a strong hint at the first version of Chrysler Group's much-anticipated next-generation of rear-wheel drive "LX" vehicles. A production version similar to the Dodge Magnum SRT-8 concept vehicle will go on sale in 2004 under the Magnum name.

SNAKE EYES
Having recently proven itself in the American Le Mans Series with an undefeated season, Dodge Viper GTS-R proudly claims the title of thoroughbred racer. The Viper GTSR Concept Vehicle explores the idea of bringing that race-ready handling and performance to the street.
The Viper GTS-R street racer is lower and lighter than ever, and every detail has been reworked for maximum ********ality. Viper GTS-R's airflow is fully adjustable by the driver with an electronically controlled front splitter, a large rear air diffuser and a rear hoop spoiler with an electronically trimmable wing.
To further blur the boundaries between racer and road car, Dodge engineers managed to tweak a little more power out of Viper's outrageous 8.0-liter V10. With dry-sump technology, it now produces 500 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque - up from 450 and 490, respectively.
That's enough extra get-up-and-go-power to take the Dodge Viper GTSR Concept Vehicle from 0-60 in 3.75 seconds (est.), with a top speed coming in at over 200 miles per hour!
Key Features:
Lightweight carbon fiber body
Modified space frame & suspension
Larger, racing tuned brakes
19-inch front/20-inch rear tires
Chassis lowered 2 inches
Sill-to-roof height 1.5 inches lower
Lower hood with larger grille opening and integrated engine louvers

Electronically trimmed front splitter
Larger rear air diffuser
Larger rear hoop spoiler with electronically trimmed rear wing
Larger doors for improved ingress/egress
Racing-inspired interior decor
Built-in fire suppression system

SUPER CHARGED
Along with the name, we also brought back the heritage that made Charger R/T a legend. This concept car advances four-door style into an entirely new dimension. True to the original muscle car form, Charger R/T, with its low, thrusting hood, has a powerful V8 matched with a five-speed manual transmission that drives the rear wheels. The front grille and lamps look menacing. The body is taut. The rear deck with spoiler, and the fascia with sly-looking taillamps and twin exhaust outlets, all signify a vigorous departure from the past. In true retro form, 1966 meets the millennium. One look at the radio knobs and three-spoke steering wheel will confirm that. The pistol-grip shift lever adds to the feeling.
Throughout this interior past and future, street and racing are balanced. Exposed metal is emphasized -- but the front and rear bucket seats are made of carbon fiber and have red leather accents. Because the Charger R/T is supercharged, the 4.7-liter SOHC, 16-valve, V8 engine has the kind of ferocity that results in 325 horsepower.
But Charger R/T is environmentally gentle -- its Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel produces negligible emissions at the tail pipes.

Hummer SUV

Few vehicles are as instantly recognizable as a Hummer SUV. Unapologetically boxy and impossibly wide, these rugged vehicles were originally built for military use, and it shows. For Hummer aficionados, the fact that these mammoth rock-crawlers are tank-like both in appearance and nature is a selling point, not a flaw. Go to a Hummer dealer and all you'll see are SUVs. There is no such thing as a Hummer car, at least not yet. The Hummer brand can actually trace its roots back to another military icon -- the Jeep. Designed by the Willys-Overland company in the 1940s, the Jeep became so popular that when Henry J. Kaiser purchased the Willys-Overland company in 1953, the name was changed to Kaiser-Jeep. In 1970, American Motors bought Kaiser-Jeep and renamed it the Jeep Corporation. At that point, Jeep was producing vehicles through two divisions: the Commercial Products division in Toledo, Ohio, and the Government Products division in South Bend, Indiana. A year later, the Government Products division was spun off as a wholly owned subsidiary known as AM General. In the early 1980s, the company, now owned by the LTV Corporation, designed a vehicle to compete for a contract offered by the U.S. Army. Called the High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV, or Humvee, as it came to be known), it was designed to serve as the military's main light tactical vehicle. AM General won a 1983 production contract (the first of many with the U.S. Army) that required the delivery of 55,000 vehicles over a five-year period. AM General's Humvees distinguished themselves in active duty during the Persian Gulf War in the early '90s. The vehicle's wartime prowess garnered a great deal of positive publicity, and not just within military circles. As a result, AM General (now under the ownership of the Renco Group) decided to introduce a civilian version of the Humvee, dubbed the Hummer, in 1992. In 1999, General Motors bought the rights to the Hummer brand name and became responsible for the development, marketing and distribution of future Hummer SUVs. The original Hummer, now called the H1, is still very much a niche offering and only a small number are produced each year. This exclusivity has played a part in making the pricey SUV a rather conspicuous status symbol. Under GM's guidance, the brand has expanded to include additional vehicles that still possess the Hummer bravado but with civilized road matters better suited for general public consumption.

Lamborghini Murcielago

Lamborghini has unveiled the 2007 Murcielago LP640, a refreshed version of its range-topping supercar. The new Murcielago is powered by a 6.5-litre V12, longitudinally mounted behind the driver (LP in LP640 means longitudinale posteriore). The engine's increased displacement means output jumps to 631 hp at 8,000 rpm. 0-62 mph is accomplished in just 3.4 seconds  that's nearly half a second faster than the regular model. A new six-speed gearbox with an optional sequential paddle shift undoubtedly helps achieve those numbers. The carbon fiber exterior has been enhanced with sharper lines, new 18-inch rims enhance the overall appearance, and new outrageous 13.5 inch-wide tires deliver all that power to the ground. The interior has also been revised for increased comfort. The vehicle is expected to be sold a premium model above the standard Murcielago.

Nissan Navara King Cab Pick Up TestSat, 8 Oct 2005

Saturday 8th October 2005The new 174PS Nissan Navara is currently king of the pick-ups. Not only will it carry more than a ton, it will also cruise at more than a ton and for that it deserves the Respect shown in its TV commercials.Compared to the average car, and previous generation pick-ups, it’s a big vehicle, longer than the average parking space. Sitting high on 17” wheels with chunky 255/65 R17 Goodyear Wrangler tyres, getting in means a climb. But the neatly minimalist dash, the multi******** steering wheel, even the ‘Birdview’ satnav are all familiar Pathfinder kit, which is hardly surprising as the two vehicles were developed side by side on the same ladderframe chassis.Same long-reach, floppy gearshift, too, which quickly becomes acceptably precise once you get used to it. Performance is slightly better, with 60 reached in 10.5 seconds rather than the 11.2 of the heavier Pathfinder, and a (conservatively estimated) top speed of 105mph. Two aspects that aren’t the same, though, are the handling and the ride comfort.Instead of a coil sprung rear axle, the Navara’s finned diff is suspended on a pair of cart springs in the time-honoured manner of Constable’s ‘Haywain’. It has to be, so the large 1,861mm by 1,560mm load deck can carry 1,085kg and company drivers temporarily get away with BIK tax on just £500 a year. But those springs make it very stiff and bouncy at the back and apt to lift and spin a rear wheel if you start being silly. You can counter this to some extent by shifting into 4x4H mode, which you can do on the fly using a dash-mounted knob. But, unless conditions are really bad, the extra wear and fuel consumption mitigate against this, so, like me, you will simply adapt your driving to the vehicle in two-wheel drive. Once you get with it you find you can actually hustle the truck through corners quite quickly, but you have to keep reminding yourself of the consequences of making a mistake with such a big, heavy vehicle. On the motorway it’s a surprisingly good cruiser. 6th gear offers 30 miles for every 1,000rpm and the steering wheel mounted cruise-control keeps it to the selected speed very accurately. It isn’t as quiet as a good car, obviously. But it’s quiet for a truck. The latest generation Birdview DVD satnav loses out in not being touch-screen. But it warns of traffic jams both on your route and in the vicinity of your route. And very neatly switches to a detailed close-up of any junction you approach with precise instructions where to go, better even than those in the new £100,000 Mercedes S600.The King Cab offers pillarless double-opening side doors. Like the Ford Ranger, Mazda B Series and RX8, and the massive Nissan Titan pick up, the rear side doors are rear hinged, which is very handy indeed. In the back there are a pair of small, folding jump seats with seatbelts but I would not recommend these for journeys of more than 10 miles. The space is best used for secure storage of tools and kit rather than people. If you need to regularly carry four or five, then sensible to sacrifice 350mm of load length and go for the double cab. This has comfortable rear seats with angled backrests and decent legroom. And, if you want to use the back of the cab for tools rather than people, you can still flip the seat squabs up.Rather than ship its new L200 Triton from Thailand with its 162bhp 3.2, Mitsubishi will be offering a 160bhp power upgrade of its 136bhp 2.5. Isuzu has a new 145bhp 3.0 I-TECH diesel for its D-Max and a 155bhp Prodrive upgrade for its older 130bhp 3.0 diesel. And there are rumours that Toyota will eventually bring in the 164bhp 3.0 D-4D for the new HiLux to supplement its standard rather weak 102bhp 2.5 D-4D. Yet Nissan still manages to outpower them all with its 172bhp Navara. And that makes the Navara undisputed king of the hill.

Toyota Land Cruiser

Toyota Land Cruiser

The launch of the new Toyota Land Cruiser is a highly significant event for Toyota in Europe. The Land Cruiser name is synonymous with Toyota values worldwide – indeed Land Cruiser is almost as old as Toyota itself.
The new Toyota Land Cruiser embodies all the rugged characteristics and off-road reliability that have made the range famous, but adds a new dimension of driving pleasure, perceived quality and comfort. As a result, the new Toyota Land Cruiser can take its place as a worthy successor to the generations which have gone before. It is equally at home on- and off-road to satisfy the new market created by current generation SUV drivers – new, demanding customers who want style, passenger car on-road dynamics and tough, off-road capability. However, the new Toyota Land Cruiser is no ‘soft’ 4x4. It retains the genetics that made Land Cruiser the toughest off-roader in the market and that can be identified by the traditional frame chassis and separate body construction for maximum rigidity and strength.
Most powerful Land Cruiser ever
The new Toyota Land Cruiser will be available with a choice of engines, both of which balance power and economy to create the most efficient power plants in their class: the latest development of the existing 3.0- litre, four cylinder, D-4D common rail turbo diesel or an all-new 4.0-litre V6 petrol – the most powerful engine ever installed in a Land Cruiser.
The advanced D-4D common rail diesel develops 120 kW (163 DIN hp) at 3,400 rpm and has massive torque of 343Nm across an engine speed range of 1,600 to 3,200rpm. This superb low-end torque availability is a record value in the segment and is best suited for off-road or towing activities. On the road, it comfortably reaches a maximum speed of 165 km/h (manual) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.7 seconds.
The all-new V6 petrol engine gives the new Land Cruiser premium passenger car performance with a 0- 100km/h acceleration in 9.5 seconds. This lightweightalloy V6 develops 183 kW (249 DIN hp) at 5,200rpm and has 380 Nm of torque at 3,800rpm.

Jeep 2008

The 2008 Jeep Liberty
The Jeep® Liberty has been a sales leader in the mid-size sport-utility vehicle (SUV) market since it replaced the Cherokee in 2002. The Jeep Liberty has two Trail Rated® four-wheel-drive systems – Command-Trac® and the Selec-Trac® II - and on-road ride and handling have been improved with the new independent front suspension, five-link rear suspension, and rack-and-pinion steering. The interior returns to the squarish Cherokee look, enhanced by the new Sky Slider™ full-open canvas roof, giving the Jeep Liberty an open-air experience. See our Auto Show coverage for introduction photos and information.
Inside, cargo and storage space increased and seat comfort improved; remote start, rain-sensing wipers, memory seats and mirrors, and express up/down windows were added.
The six speed manual and four-speed automatic transmissions continue. The standard 3.7-liter SOHC V-6 engine produces 210 hp (157 kW) @ 5,200 rpm and 235 lb.-ft. (319 N•m) of torque @ 4,000 rpm. Fuel economy (with the standard - and only - V6) was improved by about 2 mpg with either stick or automatic; it is now an estimated 16 city (18 mpg using 2007 EPA standards), and 22 mpg on the highway (23 mpg based on 2007 EPA standards). Wind drag remains high but is now lower than the Dodge Shadow; the improvement in aerodynamics may have counteracted the increase in weight.
The 2008 Jeep Liberty has safety systems including standard electronic stability control, electronic roll mitigation, all-speed traction control, brake assist, anti-lock brakes, rain sensing wipers, tire pressure monitoring, and side-curtain air bags
